Any one know of a volunteer group that will build a wheelchair ramp for an elderly of 85 years old?

Eva is 85 and her daughter is 61. They haven’t been able to hug one another for years because neither of them can navigate the stairs anymore. I’m looking for a volunteer program in Colorado (Watkins), that can build a ramp for them. Mom (Eva) has several complications and is basically a shut in and the daughter has rheumatoid arthritis and can’t get up the steps. Any ideas will be totally appreciated. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all of you in Answers land.

Check with the boy scouts, as that could be a merit badge for them

There is a Woodmen of the World Lodge in Castle Rock. WOW is known to do charity work such as you described (or at least the lodges in my state do).

Contact the lodge president and ask if their lodge would be willing to build or help pay to have the ramp built. Can’t hurt.

Just so you know, if the president agrees the cause is worthy, it has to get voted in by the lodge - so if you need it next week, this would not be a good option.

If either ever served in the armed forces the VA may do it for free. If either was married to a vet they may be eligible for some benenfits. Check their website.

In our area the Loins club will help with building ramps..

You can often get this type of local information from your local Area Agency on Aging.

Here are some possibilities I found for Adams County, Colorado, the Senior Hub looks like your best bet for referrals:

Adams County Senior Hub: 303-426-4408

Broomfield Senior Services Volunteer Handyman Program 303-464-5526

Volunteers of America - Safety of Seniors/Handyman Program 303-297-0408

Rebuilding Together (Adams and Arapahoe County) 303-217-2070

Arthritis Foundation 303-756-8622

Can’t your town council assist in their plight? Nothing wrong with asking their welfare department
Age concern groups could possibly point you in the right direction

you could get in touch with Age concern in your area they should be able to help you

Any call to any of your local Watkins churches asking for outreach programs, telling what you need, will net you a referral to another church with volunteers for such things, if they themselves have none.

I wish I had another answer for you but it seems most have already been given——-except possible a construction company. They like th publicity and this would be a very good ad for them. Tell them so and who knows———-they may want to do it. Good luck and may God bless you for your concern. You seem like a very sweet amd caring person. It’s great of you.

Check with centers for independent living (CIL) or Independent Living centers (ILC) in your area. Here’s a list of Colorado agencies.

http://www.ilru.org/html/publications/directory/colorado.html

They have build the ramp for you or can refer you to someone who does. Here in Nashville, the CIL as well as the United Cerebral Palsy center both will help build ramps for those who need them.

Good luck!

We were going to build a ramp, but after checking the price - a lift was much cheaper.

A lift does all the work and if it snows - there is just the lift that needs snow removal.

I was amazed how much cheaper it was.

My lift is attached at the same level as my back porch floor. Very convenient.

They also sell used lift’s that are like new.

Hope you are able to get help for them.

Merry Christmas.
DeeJay.
