Building wheelchair ramp for easier home entry?

What is the standard for specs for building home wheel chair ramp, width, rake or grade as in degrees of climb how long vs how? thanks for any help.

If you are in the UK look up the disability discrimination act and you should find the details there and they are quite complex as it not only involves slope but handrails and edge protection to stop the wheels running off the edge.If you are US I would suggest contacting your local building control office and they should be able to help you.

I would suggest a 2 and 12 to 3 and 12 pitch. That is how many inches it climbs in each foot. Handycap accessable doors are 36 inches wide. So I would go 40 inches wide or so.
