STM Artic Prototype - Wheelchair Ramp Test

The STM is currently testing two Articulated buses made by Novabus, and I was aboard to test out it's many amenities, including the wheelchair ramp.

i noticed that theres a little strap on the top right hand corner of theramp and thats wats preventng it form opening. i think drivers are too lazy to notice the strap
Atleast it’s only a prototype, but their new production model 2009’s aren’t fairing much better, the ramp still needs that nudge to get it open. The hydraulic jack just isn’t strong enough for the weight, and it can only get worse over time with wear and tear and age.
i see that the new novabus artics are havong a lot and i mean A LOT! of kinks. one of the rear doors wont close, and now the ramp wont even work properly!
The Novabus LFS is a bus model taken straight from the European bus book of designs. Infact it’s a straight out copy of the Den Oudsten European bus. And the first generation they made here for Montreal did not hold up very well to the climate and maintenance schedule that the mechanics were accustomed to, but Novabus has decided to buy back all of their buses at current market value from 1996 to 1998 and and replace them with a newer model during 2009 - 2001,alongside the artics that we’ll get.
for some reason why if canada and the us are suppose to be similar vehicle wise how come their buses look like a mix of a American and European model put together???? especially the novabus lfs it looks like a model straight from europe wit a little U.S. design.
its a bad idea to use the regular bus for the well chair, the ramp work time to time and at rush hours or when the bus is full, ask people to get in the back so they can get in.
i saw one of these in laval altough ive never been on one i havent seen this at the bellechase one either :(
Well, if it was in Montreal, then it would be because Novabus ramps are not made solid enough, and Montreal doesn’t use them often enough to care really. I’ve been on a bus where they kicked us out because the ramp extended then broke and the bus leaned over to one side and the ramp wouldn’t go back in.
Every time Ive been on the “new buses”, the rear door ramp always fails and the passengers have to wait for the next bus, anyone knows what the problem is?
Well.. I just hope that this is a prototype issue, and not a sign of more trouble to come.
Once, on line 15 with the current fleet, there was a a wheelchair passenger. The ramp on the rear door opened, but refused to close, so the bus could not start. It was delayed like 20 minues before another bus passed and the other driver helped kick the thing back in.
Hope the newer models won’t have this problem anymore, but from what I see on this vid, not sure really…
As usual, those Nova ramps during deploy will always slow.
